Listening to this with the hope of letting go...

    "Can't Stay Away from You"
    by Gloria Estefan

    Time flies
    When you’re having fun
    I heard somebody say
But if all I’ve been is fun
    Then baby let me go
Don’t wanna be in your way
And I don’t wanna be your second choice
Don’t wanna be just your friend
You keep telling me that you’re not in love
You wanna throw it all away

But I can’t stay away from you
I don’t wanna let you go
And though it’s killing me that’s true
    There’s just some things I can’t control

Your love is slipping through my hands
And though I’ve heard it all before
I know you’re telling me the truth
I know it’s just no use
But I can’t stay away from you

Hold on to every bit of hope, that’s all I ever do
Hoping you might change your mind
And call me up to say how much you need me too
And though you’re leaving me no other choice
Than to turn and walk away
Look over your shoulder, I’ll be there
You can count on me to stay ...

’cause I can’t stay away from you
I don’t wanna let you go
And though it’s killing me that’s true
    There’s just some things I can’t control
Your love is slipping through my hands
And though I’ve heard it all before

I know you’re telling me the truth
I know it’s just no use
But I can’t stay away from you

I know you’re telling me the truth
I know it’s just no use
But I can’t stay away from you

    Simply Nothing by Shawn McDonald

So hard to fathom the pain in Your eyes
As You're watching Your children, doing what You despise
    In pursuit of our own
We just go round and round
    Another nail to our cause
    We continue to pound
What are you, man, if you do not learn love
What are you, man, if you do not learn love
So hard to fathom, oh, the feelings inside
As You're watching Your people choosing to die
    You called out a warning
    To all that would hear
Saying come to Me, come to Me
    And I will draw near
    Learn love
    I must
    Learn love
    Learn love
    Learn love
    Learn love
    Learn love

After listening to the lyrics of this song, I was directed to this scripture:

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

    1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 8 (NIV)

What I realize is this:  the only thing that shall last for all of eternity is "Love".  It says in 1 John 4:8 that "God is love."  Since God is everlasting and God is love, only love shall remain.  The lyrics of this song say, "learn love."  You may say, "I already know how to love" or "I do love people."  I think these thoughts from time to time, but I have found that I still make rude comments about one's choice of clothing, or I get irritated with someone because I do not feel like helping them with a problem (even though that is my job), or I make mean, hateful comments to someone when they do something that I do not like.  This is not a display of the kind of love God wants us to have for one another.  Today, my question to you and to me is this, do you love people, God, and all of His creation the way he intends for you to?

I encourage you to look up God's meaning of love in 1 Corinthians 13 (just click on it).
