30 August Katrina Presents Opportunity For Scandalous Behavior**Just so all know, the link to the article I am referring to has been updated. The actual article that I was referencing is no longer available. However, you can view a video of the looters at the link provided.**
I first want to say that I am deeply moved by the tragedies that have occurred in New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. I have been in prayer for the people that were going to be and have been affected by this hurricane. I feel as if my prayers, along with many others, have been answered. This could have been much worse if the hurricane did not lose momentum before land fall. It is going to take an unmeasurable amout of time, energy, and money to rebuild what has been tore down. Even then, this catastrophy is going to leave behind sorrow, pain, terror, heartache, fear, and emotional affliction.
However, amidst all of this destruction (please see pictures below), I am still flabbergasted most by people in our society. I am referring to the people who were present for the hurricane, and it's wrath on their communities. Even more particularly, I am referring to residents of New Orleans. I am so upset by this that I cannot really comment other than to say that, after reading this article, my emotions were a mixture of shame, resentment, humiliation, and befuddlement. I would love to read your take on this particular occurrence.

First of all I want you to be sure to stay tuned because my next post in the "Life Lesson" category shall be coming out by the end of this week.
Now, for a little discussion...
I was asked by a very inquisitive friend of mine today this question, "Are we all children of satan?" (hopefully I quoted that exactly right,
 ) Well, I am sure you can imagine my response, "WHAT." Come to find out she attended a church yesterday and during the sermon the pastor said something like, "we are all children of satan." I was informed that the sermon was out of Romans 8:1-4 which reads:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. (NIV)
Ok folks, tell me exactly where you get that we are all children of the devil from that passage. What I get from this is the gospel: we are all sinners, we have been born into sin, and have a sinful nature; Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for each one of our sins, past, present, and future; by allowing Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior we recognize His sacrifice and try desperately to live a life pleasing to Him, hence "no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus".
Now, I am going to add these verses:
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" Jeremiah 1:5 (He formed us, therefore we must be HIS creation)
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30 (God loves us so much he counted the hairs on each one of our heads!!!)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27
We have all been crafted by God, created in His image. We are all derived from our Almighty God. But, and, yes, there is a but in this...
We can become children of satan.
For instance:
This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. 1 John 3:10
Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:42-44 (Satan was an angel in heaven who wanted to be God. Because of Satan's desire to be God he was cast out of heaven by God.)
So, it all boils down to a choice (I so love this, just like I said in my entry called "Balance"). We have a choice to either remain in God and be a "child of God" or we may choose to live consumed in sin- following after sin with no fear of the consequences of the LORD- and choose to be a "child of the devil". However, we are NOT all children of satan.
I would love for any of you out there with a rebuttal to please comment; if any of you out there have anything to add you are encouraged to do so; and if any one has a question, oh please give me something else to look up :-).
